On Monday, August 24, at 9:00 p.m., at the Municipal Theater in Platania, Velika, the new archaeological research being conducted at Skiathas, Agiokampos was presented to the public.

The research is part of a five-year collaborative program between the Department of History and Archaeology at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and the Larissa Ephorate of Antiquities. The program began in 2025 and continues this year through mid-September, with the participation of a large group of undergraduate and graduate students. Scientific supervision is provided by Panagiotis Tselekas (Associate Professor of Classical Archaeology, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki), Stavroula Sdrolia (Honorary Curator of Antiquities), Ioanna Vassiliadou (Lecturer in Classical Archaeology, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki), and Nektaria Alexiou (archaeologist, Ephorate of Antiquities of Larissa).

During the event, Mr. Tselekas discussed the program’s main objectives, which involve the systematic investigation of the ancient city discovered 35 years ago on Skiathos by the recently deceased Director of Antiquities, Athanasios Tziafalias. According to the data available to date, the site is identified as ancient Melivoia, the most important city on the coast of Kissavos. In addition, recent findings from the research will be presented, such as architectural remains and movable antiquities, which add to the already rich archaeological material from the site, currently housed in the Archaeological Museums of Larissa and Volos.
