In June, at the Old Carpet Factory in Hydra, the Opuntia and Green Pepe sculptural design collections were presented through a site-specific installation.

Inspired by the prickly pear, the collections explored the relationship between nature, light, and marble through sculptural objects and portable lighting fixtures. With the invitation “Please Do Touch,” the installation encouraged the public to approach marble beyond its conventional perception: rigid yet malleable, austere yet tangible, cold yet luminous.

Set within the historic surroundings of the Old Carpet Factory mansion—known for its collection of rare musical instruments and its expertise in analog music production—the installation explored the duality of matter. The historical use of the sharp thorns of the prickly pear as phonograph needles—thanks to their softer and warmer sound compared to steel—highlighted the transition from sharpness to softness as a prime example of material transformation.

In connection with the history of the space and its rare artifacts, the Opuntia installation explored the duality and resilience of matter, highlighting creation as an act of perseverance: a way of shaping continuity, meaning, and presence over time.

On-Entropy is a marble design and fabrication studio founded in 2013 by sisters Niki and Zoe Moskofoglou.
