The National Library of Greece (NLG) and the Paleography Laboratory of the University of Crete are co-organizing a new series of three academic lectures on the theme

“Cretan Codex Scribes: Focusing on Michael Apostolis”

Michael Apostolis, a scholar from Constantinople who settled in Venetian-ruled Chandax after the fall of Constantinople, developed multifaceted codicological and philological activities on the island and established a center of philological and codicological tradition through educational initiatives and collaborations with scholars of the time.

The second lecture will be given on May 13, 2026, by Dr. Nikolaos Sarris, Book and Paper Conservator at the Conservation Department of the National Library of Greece, titled:

“Manuscript Binding in the Circle of Michael Apostolis: The Cretan Workshop”
