This summer, the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC) serves as a premier summer destination in Athens, a place for people to come together and share experiences, and invites the public to a dynamic program of events. Film screenings and concerts in the Park, sunset DJ sets, sleepovers under the light of the full moon, as well as opportunities for sports and relaxation, all come together to create a daily rendezvous with culture, entertainment, education, and well-being, catering to all ages and interests. With free admission and a wealth of options, summer at the SNFCC is here and is for everyone.

Summer means, first and foremost, outdoor cinema. The successful outdoor film series Park Your Cinema and Park Your Cinema Kids are back for the eleventh consecutive year to delight the city’s film-loving audience. Adult audiences will have the opportunity to enjoy popular “Musicals Under the Stars,” while children will watch films centered on friendship and family.

Of course, this year’s program wouldn’t be complete without the unique experience of the Full Moon Sleepover and the Full Moon Film Marathon, which audiences are invited to enjoy during the full moons in July and August, respectively. The evenings are dedicated to two directors who have left their mark on world cinema: Steven Spielberg (July 29) and Stanley Kubrick (August 28).

As part of the summer program’s music lineup, July marks the launch of Sunset Frequencies, the SNFCC’s new music series, which takes place every Wednesday at sunset, featuring Greek DJs and small live bands. That same month, In Orbit (July 10–12), the festival that charts the city’s contemporary alternative music scene, returns with a lineup curated by select independent record stores and labels.

At the same time, the program is enriched with festivals that celebrate community and coexistence. In May, the Community Choirs Festival (May 22–24) is a two-day event dedicated to the choir as a means of collective expression and shared musical experience. Similarly, in July, the Glade at Stavros Niarchos Park transforms into an open space for gathering and creation as part of the Common Grounds festival (July 15–17), where different cultures shape a shared space through traditions, storytelling, arts, and sounds.

The now-established Parklife concert series returns in September with two tributes: one to the legendary Beatles (September 6) and one to the great singer-songwriter Leonard Cohen (September 12). Also this month, the SNFCC Green Weekend returns to the SNFCC for its sixth year (September 19–20). This year’s festival focuses on water and aims to raise awareness and reopen a multifaceted dialogue on the environment.

The program is complemented by the two outdoor exhibitions currently on view at the SNFCC. The exhibition Untitled (Pride and Contempt), by the iconic American artist Barbara Kruger, features thirteen new large-scale works specially designed for the public spaces of the SNFCC, while the photography exhibition Together, Visible, in collaboration with MOMUS—the Thessaloniki Museum of Photography, highlights multiple facets of the female experience.

Finally, physical fitness and creativity remain the focus this summer through workshops and sports programs (running, yoga, Pilates, kayaking on the Canal, etc.) designed for both children and adults.

The Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) supports the majority of the SNFCC’s events through its donation.
