A unique two-day experiential learning event focusing on the ancient Greek art of dance, both in theory and in practice, took place in Loutraki-Heraion Perachora on April 25–26, 2026.
The Municipality of Loutraki-Perachora and Agioi Theodoroi has made available to the members of the Philosophy & Art Workshop of the National & Kapodistrian University of Athens the atmospheric event hall of the Beau Rivage Cultural Center, where choral excerpts from ancient Greek poetry dating from the 6th to the 2nd century B.C. were presented, set to music, philosophical, and choreographic dimensions, with a focus on the Dionysian element. The performance was accompanied by ancient musical instruments—lyres and harps—crafted by local musician and artist Dimitris Nossis.
Dimitris Nossis demonstrated how a replica of Pythagoras’s monochord serves as a guide for tuning the lyre. He accompanied the choreography of the dance to Mesomedes’ hymn to the Muses, the verses of the ancient Boeotian poetess Korina on Terpsichore, Seikilos’ epitaphic epigram, and others, while the participants sang and moved to the rhythms and meters of ancient verse.
A visit to the renovated Perachora Folklore Museum, the archaeological site of Heraion, the natural surroundings of Gerania, and the conclusion of the two-day event with an experience at the hot springs, fully rounded out this significant experience for both young and older participants in a pioneering educational program that brings a new dimension to ancient heritage.
