The Municipality of Edessa received a Special Award for Excellence and Outstanding Performance in Destination Management and Inter-Municipal Cooperation, during an event organized in Skopje, the capital of North Macedonia, at the cultural hall of the National Opera House.

The event was attended by the Greek Ambassador, Ms. Sofia Filippidou, as well as the European Union Ambassador to Greece, Mr. Michalis Rokas. The award was accepted by Dr. Evangelos Kyriakou, Head of Tourism for the Municipality of Edessa.

The award was given, among other things, for inter-municipal cooperation programs that are ongoing and contribute to the sustainable development of cross-border regions.

Edessa was nominated for the award by the EU Technical Assistance Team for Municipalities, led by Dr. Klaus Richter, who has visited the city and the region and the structured and networked attractions that emerged following collaborations with municipalities within the framework of the implementation of European cross-border inter-municipal cooperation programs.
