“look OVER THERE, a settlement on Keros, 4,500 years ago”
The Organization of Culture, Sports and Youth of the Municipality of Athens (OPANDA) reopened building A of the Municipal Gallery of Athens to the public, with the inauguration of the exhibition “look OVER THERE, a settlement on Keros, 4,500 years ago” which was held on May 25, in the presence of the President of the Republic Katerina Sakellaropoulou, the Minister of Culture Lina Mendoni, the Mayor of Athens Costas Bakogiannis and the president of OPANDA Anna Rokofyllou.
This is an iconic exhibition in which the public can admire the great archaeological findings from Keros and Daskalio, important sites of the Early Cycladic period (3,200-2,100 BC).
The exhibition, co-organized by OPANDA and the Ephorate of Antiquities of the Cyclades, is structured around two axes. On the one hand, it presents various aspects of life in Daskalio which demonstrate its uniqueness and position in an extensive exchange network. On the other hand, the exhibition presents aspects of the excavation and documentation processes, which have been carried out using state-of-the-art technologies, as well as aspects of the demanding work of archaeologists and researchers under particularly harsh soil and climatic conditions.
The exhibition is curated by the archaeologist-museologist of the Ephorate of Antiquities of Cyclades Stefanos Keramidas, under the general coordination of Director Dimitris Athanasoulis, with co-curator Margarita Drillia, archaeologist and contact person responsible for communicating with Easydot, the company that conducted the museographical design study. The coordination on behalf of the OPANDA was undertaken by the Gallery’s curator Kalli Petrocheilou.
