The Children’s Department of the University of Cyprus Library, in collaboration with the Cyprus Children’s and Young Adult Book Association and IBBY International (International Board on Books for Young People), is hosting the International Collection of Books for Young People with Disabilities from February 13 to 27, 2026, daily from 08:30 to 18:00.
This is a curated collection of books in English that stand out for their accessible design (such as Braille, Easy-to-Read formats, tactile books, and symbol systems), as well as for their high-quality literary portrayal of characters/heroes with disabilities.
The exhibition offers a condensed overview of best contemporary practices in inclusion, focusing on the latest and most innovative international book releases that demonstrate that reading knows no boundaries.
The IBBY International Collection of Books for Young People with Disabilities is a global institution that ensures every child and teenager’s right to equal access to reading. While the core of the collection, with thousands of titles in dozens of languages, is permanently housed at the Toronto Public Library, every two years IBBY selects the most noteworthy examples of global production, creating the special edition “Outstanding Books for Young People with Disabilities.”
In January, the exhibition was at the Deputy Ministry of Culture, where it was hosted as part of the Department of Contemporary Culture’s program entitled “Schools as Ambassadors of Culture – Children as Ambassadors of Culture.” After the Deputy Ministry of Culture, the Library of the University of Nicosia (February 2-12) and the Library of the University of Cyprus (February 13-27) the book exhibition will continue its journey at the Library of the Cyprus University of Technology (March 2-13).
The exhibition is coordinated by the Events and Educational Visits Team of the Children’s Department of the University of Cyprus Library: Stavroula Pitta, Maria Pournara, and Ioanna Voutouri. For more information about the exhibition, please call: 22892167.
