A horrific murder of a woman shocks public opinion during the years of the junta. Nikos Koudouros, a political immigrant in London at the time, observes the huge social impact of the high-profile trial and, inspired by this event, writes a shocking monodrama.
A law student brutally murdered the girl he had been in a relationship with for three years. The young woman’s body was thrown from the third floor of a central Athens hotel, half-naked after lovemaking, onto the sidewalk like trash. Koundouros masterfully enters the clouded mind of the murderer.
He writes in detail, following the anguish and mania of persecution of Theophilos Tsafos, a murderer who confused the court and was characterized as both schizophrenic and in full possession of his faculties.
In his defense, the murderer claims to be a secret service agent, which is not confirmed.
At this point, Koundouros masterfully begins to unravel the mystery, going back to the events to reveal the paranoia behind the birth of a fascist.
The play was directed by Giota Koundouraki, starring Nikos Panopoulos, and ran for two seasons 15 years ago to great acclaim. It is now being revived at the Mikros Keramikos Theater and will tour throughout Greece during the year.
