International singer Alexandra Gravas performs a cover version of the deeply moving ballad “You Have Been Loved” by pop legend George Michael, after receiving approval from Warner Chappell Germany, presenting a deep, atmospheric, different version of the song, accompanied by guitars and cello. The official release date of “You Have Been Loved” on all digital music platforms is December 25, 2025, exactly nine years after the death of the great artist who was born and passed away on the same day (12/25/1963-12/25/2016) .
“You Have Been Loved” was released on the album “Older” in 1996 and then as a single in 1997. This very personal song was written on the occasion of the unjust loss of his great love, Brazilian Anselmo Feleppa, who died of AIDS. George Michael’s lyrics reveal a deep sensitivity to life and its meaning, striking a chord in the listener’s heart.
“This song is one of the most inspired and honest statements a person can make about love and loss,” says Alexandra Gravas. “George Michael’s very personal and honest approach to the lyrics made me feel that it was my story, your story, a story so personal that it concerns us all. George Michael gives us the opportunity to come to terms with the legacy he left behind, while continuing to enlighten us with his music.”
I would also like to express my gratitude to Warner Chappel for the trust they have shown in me and for giving me permission to record and release my cover of this amazing song. I think about how simple and harmonious my musical “experiment” has been so far. My decision to go into the studio and record this “poem” was completely spontaneous. I wanted to interpret it, to feel it. To interpret the wonderful lyrics to this unique melody, even though I come from a different musical genre. I felt crazy joy when the email arrived with the positive response from Warner Chappell Germany, which said “Yes, we give you the go-ahead to proceed with the release of the song, and please note that licenses for covers of George Michael songs are rarely granted.” This made me feel very proud.
“And one more thing: One Sunday afternoon in London, I was walking in the park and saw a gorgeous man dressed in cream, wearing impressive glasses. Then the heart of the insignificant music student Alexandra Gravas skipped a beat at the sight of the legendary George Michael.”
