
The chestnut is honored on the weekend of October 25 and 26 in Karytsa, in the municipality of Agia, where a traditional festival is held in which residents and visitors honor the fruit of the region’s most important crop. The rich program of events is organized by the Municipality of Agias and the Local Community of Karytsa, in collaboration with the Region of Thessaly, the Cultural and Nature-Loving Association of Karytsa “Kalypso” and the Agricultural Cooperative of Karytsa.
We would like to remind you that this Sunday, October 19, the Chestnut Festival of Skiti will be held, organized by the Environmental – Educational Association of Skiti in collaboration with the Municipality of Agias, the Region of Thessaly, and the Local Community of Skiti, followed by a third festival in Melivoia on November 1 and 2, with a program of events to be announced in the coming days.

20.30Presentation of traditional dances
An exhibition on the theme of chestnuts will be held at the Karytsa Primary School.
This will be followed by a celebration accompanied by a folk orchestra.

Church service
9:00 a.m. Hike in the Kalypso Gorge, meeting point at the “Profil” café at the exit of Karytsa – Kokkino Nero
11:00 a.m. Lecture on “Chestnut cultivation in the era of climate crisis” by Dr. Alexander Papachatzis, Professor of Arboriculture, University of Thessaly – Chair of the Department of Agriculture – Agricultural Technology – Director of the Laboratory of Horticulture & Soil Resources, HORTLAB 12:00 p.m. Activities for children from the Creative Door workshop
1:00 p.m. Tasting buffet.
Followed by a feast accompanied by a folk orchestra
During the two days of events Roasted chestnuts will be available free of charge to visitors. Also, in the covered event area,
there will be exhibitors with local products and handmade creations from the Prefecture of Larissa.
