Greece is participating actively in the 43rd LIBER International Book Fair, which is being held in Madrid from Tuesday, October 7, to Thursday, October 9, 2025, in Hall 14.1 of the IFEMA International Exhibition Center. The Greek participation was prepared by the Directorate of Letters, of the General Directorate of Contemporary Culture, as part of a project of the Recovery and Resilience Fund, implemented by the Ministry of Culture.
LIBER is the largest gathering of the publishing world in Spain, one of the most important international book institutions. This year, it is expected to bring together more than 11,000 professionals, 458 publishing companies, and 180 journalists from 51 countries. Chile is the guest of honor.
Forty-four Greek publishers, cultural organizations, and institutions are participating in the National Pavilion (14 D02), two of which are physically present. More than 450 books will be exhibited and promoted, both in Greek and in other languages – publications by the Ministry of Culture and its supervised bodies, cultural institutions and publishing houses, both Greek and foreign, which publish translations of Greek books. The GreekLit translation subsidy program, through which books from Greek publishing are presented in other languages, has a special place.
The Greek presence will be enriched by a series of events, which will take place at the exhibition venues and at iconic landmarks in Madrid. Special emphasis will be placed on the professional nature of Greece’s participation, with the aim of strengthening international cooperation. In this context, the new initiative of the Ministry of Culture and Sports, “Greek Book Reading Clubs around the World,” will be presented for the first time, with the aim of creating an international network of reading and dialogue on contemporary Greek literature.
The program of cultural events is being organized in collaboration with the Hellenic Foundation for Books and Culture, the Center for Byzantine, Modern Greek and Cypriot Studies at the University of Granada, publishing houses, and cultural organizations in Greece and abroad.
