The University of Cyprus Library is organizing a one-day conference entitled “Cavafy and Cyprus: Poetic Readings and Interpretations” on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, at the “Philippos Tsiboglou” Amphitheater of the “Stelios Ioannou” Information Center – Library.

The event is dedicated to the Alexandrian poet C. P. Cavafy and aims to highlight the multifaceted relationships between his work and Cypriot history, literature, and scholarship. Through academic presentations, poetry readings, and artistic performances, the academic discussion will develop within the framework of an interdisciplinary approach to Cavafy’s work and its relationship with Cyprus and the modern Greek world.

The program will feature academics, researchers, and artists, with presentations on Cavafy’s historical method, his early poetic explorations, his relationship with Cypriot literature, and his reception by Cypriot writers and scholars. At the same time, there will be readings and musical renditions of poems, offering a multidimensional experience of language and art.

The workshop will conclude with a discussion, providing an opportunity for dialogue and exchange of views on Cavafy’s place and significance in Greek and Cypriot culture.
