A new space of about 500 sq.m. with the inventive title P.Ar.Co-By the river (Place of Art Contemporary) dedicated to contemporary – mainly Greek – art is inaugurated in the city of Larissa, aiming to strengthen cultural decentralization and the promotion of the creative potential of the Greek province.
The initiative is based on a private collection of works by artists from the 1960s (Kaniaris, Kessanlis, Zongolopoulos, Chrysa…) to the present day, which now has a public character, supporting the view that art should belong to society and function as a tool for participation and contribution.
The space aspires to become a reference point for both the local community and the wider network of contemporary art, through collaborations with institutions and organizations in Greece and abroad. Special emphasis is placed on young artists who are given the opportunity to exhibit their work. In addition, by hosting and exchanging artists, the space will function as a place of osmosis and dialogue, education and local development.
The first exhibition entitled “Geniusloci” : 24 Thessalian visual artists (works 1985-2025), curated by Fanis Paraforou, art theorist, University of Thessaly, will take place on 22 May and will mark the opening of the space.
