The Organization for Culture, Sports and Youth of the Municipality of Athens (OPANDA), in the framework of its initiatives to support books and literacy, and in cooperation for the first time with the Hellenic Authors’ Society, organizes a Creative Writing Program at the Creative Learning Centers of Alexandra Avenue and Evelpidon, which includes two courses.

The aim of the Creative Writing Programme is, on the one hand, to give participants the opportunity to cultivate their skills in literary writing, and on the other hand, to allow the Athenian reading public to get to know contemporary Greek writers and have a conversation with them.

With this initiative OPANDA supports literary creation and authors, bringing the public in contact with leading representatives of contemporary Greek literature. The book plays a central role in the events organised by the Municipality of Athens, in an effort to promote literacy, bringing books to the neighbourhoods of Athens, contributing to the formation of future readers.

The Creative Writing Program includes specialized courses in short stories, novels and poetry, taught by distinguished literary artists. In addition, major writers have been invited to present their work to trainees and interested audiences at special events.

More specifically, at the Creative Learning Centre on Alexandra Avenue, participants will attend short story writing classes with the writer Elena Maroutsou, novel writing classes with the writer Christos Chrysopoulos and poetry classes with the poet Krystallis Glyniadakis.

The invited authors will be the prose writer Andreas Mitsou (3 April), the writer Rea Galanaki (15 May) and the poet Antonis Fostieris (5 June).

At the Centre for Creative Learning of Evelpidon, short stories courses are taught by the writer Lena Kallergi, fiction courses by the writer Giorgos Ikaros Babasakis and poetry by the poet Thomas Tsalapatis.

The authors who will visit the Centre are the prose writer Sotiris Demetriou (28 March), the writer Zyrana Zateli (9 May) and the poet Pavlina Pamboudi (30 May).

During the days when the invited authors will be at the Creative Learning Centres, not only the registered and enrolled authors, but also the general public will have the opportunity to attend and meet the authors. The meetings will take place on the above-mentioned dates and at 18:00.

Classes at the Alexandra L.C. KDM start on 13 March and at the Evelpidon L.C on 14 March, and last until June 2025. Participation is free of charge.
