The House of Cyprus in cooperation with the Federation of Cypriot Organizations of Greece (O.K.O.E.), the Michael Cacoyannis Foundation and with the support of the Department of Contemporary Culture of the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth of the Republic of Cyprus, invite you to the musical tribute and the presentation of the album “Half a Century of Silences”.

In the context of the 50th anniversary of the Turkish invasion of Cyprus, Maria Theodotou, Andreas Katsigiannis and Maria Hatziayaxenti present the recording entitled “Cyprus 1974-2024 – Half a Century of Silences”.

A musical work of memory and honour, based on seven testimonies, experiences and recorded events from 1974 in Cyprus.

The lyricist of the album, Maria Hatziayaxenti, being a refugee herself, recorded the lives of seven ordinary people, in theatrical monologues and lyrics. The lyrics became the trigger for the “birth” of the songs of this work, which are also inextricably linked to the texts.

The composer Andreas Katsigiannis, on piano and santouri, with a group of musicians, presents the songs, which he himself set to music in a unique way and aesthetics.

Maria Theodotou, the main performer and producer of the work, with a group of performers present the songs in a setting that takes us back to those dark days of the invasion, through the video projections and the direction of Christoforos Herodotou.

The evening, as well as the album, is dedicated to the WOMEN, ΜΟΤHERS and WIVES of the missing, and is a channel of honorary reference and award to the symbolic figures of the struggle for return, Harita Mantoles and Eleni Fokas.

Greetings: Stavros Avgoustidis, Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus and George Syllouris, President of the O.K.O.E.
