In the live discussion of Society Uncensored, entitled “Final Exit”, experts from the fields of medicine and law, intellectuals and patients who will share their personal experience, speak openly and honestly, going beyond the limits of their sciences, about euthanasia and assisted suicide in Greece and the rest of the world. How do we understand today the moral dilemmas and the right to self-determination to the obligation to protect human life and the experience of families and caregivers? Viewers become an active part of the discussion, which will be filmed and presented on the Onassis Foundation’s YouTube channel.
The Society Uncensored event opens up a dialogue that goes beyond the narrow boundaries of medicine and law. What are the ethical dilemmas that arise when life comes to an end? How do we balance the right to self-determination with the obligation to protect human life? Who defines what a dignified death means? Experts and scientists, as well as people who experience first-hand the consequences of these choices, share their knowledge and experiences. Legal experts clarify the legal framework governing euthanasia and assisted suicide in Greece and internationally, the different approaches adopted by different countries and their outcomes. How do families or caregivers experience all this? And what role do religious beliefs and cultural values play?
Our aim is to create a space for open and constructive dialogue. Only through an honest and in-depth discussion can we understand the complexity of this issue, find answers and build a social consensus. The way we say goodbye to our lives concerns us all.
