The collaboration focuses on creating opportunities for the student and academic community to interact with the theatre, as well as on the development of innovative educational and research programmes. In addition, it includes actions to enhance cultural activity, improve access to theatre and promote cultural education through joint initiatives and synergies.
The Rector of the University of Cyprus, Professor Tasos Christofides, said:
“The renewal of this cooperation is an important step towards the creation of a vibrant cultural core that combines knowledge, research and art. The University of Cyprus remains true to its commitment to the cultivation of our country’s cultural identity.”

THOC will continue to be a key pillar of cultural expression and creativity.”
This cooperation provides for a wide range of joint initiatives, including the co-organisation of scientific and cultural events, such as theatre performances, lectures and educational activities aimed at both students and the wider community. Particular emphasis is placed on the involvement of the student community and young graduates of the University of Cyprus in the activities of THOC, offering them the opportunity to gain practical experience and contribute creatively to cultural production. At the same time, the two parties will join forces in research projects, utilizing their knowledge and expertise, with the aim of formulating policies that promote theatrical and cultural development.
The University of Cyprus and the Cyprus Theatre Organisation aim to bridge the gap between science and art, as well as to foster a culture that promotes the love of theatre, contributing to the formation of a modern and dynamic cultural identity for Cyprus.
