This year the Municipality of Chania continues to receive awards for innovation and good practices in local government at the national level.

In this year’s “Best City Awards 2025”, the awards that reward original and ingenious practices for the operation of municipalities and regions, the Municipality of Chania was awarded four (4) awards in the following categories:

• GOLD award in the category “Sustainability in transport – Information systems & smart applications (e.g. smart charging, smart public transport stops, etc.) for PARK AND RIDE CHANIA, the free and innovative parking system in Kladisos and the “smart mobility” of users in the center of Chania with the electric buses of the Municipality of Chania.
• GOLD award in the category “Culture and Sustainable Development” for the revival of the Traditional Strata of the Municipality of Chania, the interactive cultural festival that takes place in the alleys of the old town of Chania during the summer.
• BRONZE award in the category “Digital local tourist guide & mobile applications” for the Innovative Digital Tools for Culture – Tourism of the Municipality of Chania (explorechania, chaniaheritage, Virtual tour in the Old Town of Chania)
• BRONZE award in the category “Social Responsibility” for the Mobile Living Room “MULaR” of the Municipality of Chania

For the award ceremony, the Deputy Mayor of Technical Services, Michael Kalogridakis, the Deputy Mayor of Building & Traffic, Nikos Hazirakis, the Deputy Mayor of Tourism, were in Athens, Nektarios Psaroudakis, the Head of the Department of Planning, Organization and Information Technology of the Municipality of Chania, Sevasti Polychronaki and the special assistant to the Mayor on Tourism, Manolis Dukakis.
