The audience will have a unique opportunity to follow the process of creating an operatic concert, from A to Z, from teaching to performance, by the distinguished baritone Dimitris Teliakos. All this at the 5-day masterclass, open to the public, on 20-24 January at the Lillian Voudouri Music Library of the Friends of Music Association and at the closing concert É aperto a tutti quanti on Wednesday 29 January at the Dimitris Mitropoulos Hall of the Athens Concert Hall.
Mozart’s operas, especially those with a libretto by Lorenzo da Ponte, Le nozze di Figaro, Don Giovanni, Così fan tutte, also known as the Mozart – Da Ponte trilogy, are three timeless masterpieces that belong to the genre of oper abuffa and drama giocoso and form the backbone of the repertoire of lyric theatres worldwide, but are also the reference repertoire for the study and development of lyric singers.
In the seminar organized by the Friends of Music Association on 20-24 January 2025 at the Association’s Teaching Hall at the Athens Concert Hall, the internationally distinguished baritone Dimitris Tiliakos will teach the style, technique and interpretation of the basic roles of the trilogy, on arias, recitativi, ensembles and entire scenes. The main focus of his teaching is the theatricality that stems from the timeless themes of these works: power, morality, religion, and erotic desire. The participants will be accompanied on the piano by the well-known pianist Thanos Margetis.
The intensive one-week perfection seminar will open with a short lecture on the works of Mozart – Da Ponte by the musicologists of the Music Library “Lilian Voudouri”, Gabriella Spanò and Myrto Economidou.
The 16 lyrical artists selected are: Georgios Despina, Dematsas Paris, Drandaki Despina, Zavitsanou Elpida, Zova Sofia, Kalmoukis Akis, Kalokairinos Ioannis, Kornelou Christianna, Koutsouri Sofia, Pappa Aliki, Petropoulou Irini, Prodromidou Anastasia Ariadne, Spiliotis Angelos, Stamboli Vassiliou, Tsarekas Orfeas, Cheretaki Antonia.
On 29 January in the Dimitris Mitropoulos Hall, the audience will have the opportunity to attend the final performance of the masterclass entitled É aperto a tutti quanti (Open to all), where the 16 lyric singers will present in a staged form the arias and ensembles they have been taught.
