The 1st International Conference on Cinema Screenplay, Practice and Research, organized by the School of Applied Arts and Sustainable Design of the Hellenic Open University in collaboration with the International Short Film Festival of Drama, on December 12, 13 & 14, 2024 at the Hellenic Open University Annex in Athens, was successfully completed.

The Conference was conducted in a hybrid format with in-person and distance sessions, while the presentations approached thematic fields related to film writing and research in accordance with the undergraduate programme of studies “Studies in Film Writing, Practice and Research (FWR)” of the Hellenic Academy of Art and Design, as well as the broader scientific, artistic and social implications of cinema. In 13 sessions, 62 scientific papers were presented by Professors from Greek and foreign Universities, Associate Teaching Staff of Higher Education Institutions, Teachers, Researchers, PhD candidates and students.

Special mention and thanks for the live presence of the keynote speakers of the conference to the well-known director Costas Ferris, who during the first day, honored the conference with his speech “Cinema in the century of Generalized Audiovisual Communication” and to Professor Ioannis Deligiannis, who during the second day, honored the conference with his speech “The application of Artificial Intelligence in filmmaking”.

The papers will be published in an electronic version of the Conference Proceedings which will be available free of charge.
