The Ex Nihilo, an international group of dancers and interdisciplinary artists, will visit Elefsina from 8 to 13 December as part of their work-in-progress project titled “L’Envers d’ici”. Supported by 2023 Eleusis, the visit aims to collect video and photographic material from unique locations in the city, which will form a body of spaces to be integrated into the repertoire of images for the project’s future presentations.
On Thursday 12 December, the documentary series One Land, Many Lands will be screened at Cine Eleusis with the support of the Municipality of Elefsina, in the presence of the local Associations. Produced by elc productions, the series of 25 mini-documentaries is dedicated to the Associations of the city and is the result of research and documentation on the collective experiences of the people who shaped the identity of Elefsina through their traditions and personal journeys. Among them are stories of people who once left their homeland and came together to create a place from scratch.
The documentary screening series Human Imprints concludes its successful run on 2 & 16 December at Cine Eleusis. Focusing on ecology, archaeology and human geography, three feature-length and short documentaries will once again shed cinematic light on the cultural everyday life of the city, with the presence of their creators. A co-production of 2023 Eleusis and the Non-Profit Organization “ELEFSINA – ARTS AND CULTURE.”
Mystery 59 U(R)TOPIAS Academy of Choreography, under the artistic direction of Patricia Apergi and the Aerites contemporary dance company, is entering its fourth year in Elefsina. In December, the second intensive workshop week will take place, where participating choreographers will attend seminars led by guest artists. Additionally, the 10-day residencies in Elefsina continue, offering participants the opportunity to further deepen their choreographic research. More importantly, these residencies provide a chance to the participants to connect more closely with the city, interact with its residents and experience its daily life.
2023 Eleusis also supports the new initiative by the En Dynamei Ensemble and OKAY Initiative Space titled “I Got It Tho”, a collective art exhibition that will be presented in December in Athens. The project aims to explore themes of inclusivity, diversity and creative expression, involving people with and without disabilities, the wider public, members of the En Dynamei Ensemble and organizations focused on social minorities. The project unfolds in three phases, including workshops that involve Elefsina’s social structures “Evrinomi” (a Day Care Center for Individuals with Intellectual Disabilities) and “Oloi Emeis” (a Day Care Center for Individuals with Special Needs), promoting collaboration and inclusivity.
The project Open Station – Open Community, presented by Cultterra at the Old Railway Station of Elefsina this fall, continues in December with new events every Thursday at 19:00.
