Ekfrasi – yianna grammatopoulou, presents the solo exhibition of Stavros Kassis, entitled Album.

The central theme of Kassis’s work is tourism, which he explores “both as a social phenomenon and as a way of perceiving the world,” as art historian and curator Christoforos Marinos notes.

The artist creates collages using a variety of materials—photographs from flea markets and images cut out from vintage magazines combined with building materials and urban waste, such as pieces of asphalt, bricks, nails, crates, and fragments of furniture. He composes anarchic arrangements placed in space in a way that deliberately appears unfinished and functional, described as “a kind of arte povera with baroque characteristics”.

“Every image is fragmented, disconnected from its spatial or temporal context […] They introduce temporal distortion and narrative discontinuity. Here, photography itself becomes an object, revealing the fragility of life, its beauty, and its pain.”, observes Christoforos Marinos. He characterizes the artist’s works as anti-minimalist, complex, and noisy, reminding us that art is inherently intertwined with life.
