The Dance Department of the Municipality of Patras and its Folk Orchestra, present at 8.30 on Monday evening, December 2, a special event dedicated to the “Rebetiko of the Occupation”.

During the event, through the steps, music and rebetiko singing, a special “journey” will take place during the difficult years of occupation, while highlighting why rebetiko was one of the most important expressions of popular culture of the time.

The Folk Orchestra will present rebetika songs with authentic folk instruments, offering a unique musical experience, while the Municipality of Patras Dance Department will perform the dance and movement that accompanied these songs at that time.

Songs written about love, passion, the struggle for freedom and a better life will be performed. Songs written by poets, but also by creators who never read poetry in their lives, feeling their history at the same time, searching for when they were written and under what circumstances and by whom they were first sung.
