Aristotle University is in the top 10% worldwide and specifically in the 501-600 position, according to the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), also known as the Shanghai Ranking.

The validity and reliability of this ranking, compared to others, lies in the fact that it is created solely on the basis of the publications of the faculty members of each institution and the awarding of internationally recognised prizes in the subject areas it covers.

Around 5000 universities from 104 countries were considered for 2024. According to the current version of the ranking (November 2024), AUTH improved in 12 of the 22 scientific fields, while maintaining its high positions in six other fields, which highlights the institution’s steady upward trend.

Among the first 100 scientific fields are “Telecommunication Engineering” and “Veterinary Sciences” (76-100), between positions 101-150 are “Food Science & Technology”, “Civil Engineering”, “Transportation Science & Technology”, “Dentistry & Oral Sciences” (151-200) and between positions 201-300 are “Atmospheric Science”, “Electrical & Electronic Engineering”, “Agricultural Sciences”, “Clinical Medicine” and “Public Health Education”.

“The new distinction of Aristotle University in the global ranking of the Shanghai List confirms, once again, the academic and research excellence of the institution and is a recognition of the systematic effort made by its highly qualified human resources,” said the Rector of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Professor Haralambos Fidas.
