The University of Cyprus welcomed with great honor the printmaking exhibition of the emeritus Professor of Printmaking and former Director of the Printmaking Department of the Athens School of Fine Arts, Professor Michalis Arfaras. The opening of the Pritnmaking Exhibition was held by the Rector of the University of Cyprus, Professor Tassos Christofidis on Tuesday, November 5, 2024 at 5 p.m. in the visual atrium area of ​​the Building “Anastassios G. Leventis” in the University Campus.

This exhibition highlights the creative path of Michalis Arfaras and presents selections from his diverse and multifaceted artistic pursuits. His works, with a strong emphasis on contemporary printmaking, embody his experimental approach and exude his pioneering aesthetic. Visitors will have the opportunity to browse visual creations that incorporate elements of urban culture and timeless visual motifs, through a contemporary and innovative approach.

At the same time, in the framework of the Exhibition, the artist will present to the Information Centre – Library “Stelios Ioannou” two unique copies of the publication “C.P. Cavafy, poems concealed, hidden, unfinished and four sketches”, accompanied by original engravings bearing his personal monogram. This offer highlights the timeless value of Arfaras’ work and his involvement with the world of literature and poetry, enhancing the cultural heritage of the University of Cyprus.

The exhibition promises to offer the public a unique opportunity to get to know the richness and depth of Arfaras’ work, to explore his techniques and thematic choices and to get a taste of contemporary European printmaking.
