On Monday, October 7, at 19:00, Christina Mitsopoulou (University of Thessaly & French School of Athens), co-curator of the exhibition, “Olympism. A modern invention, an ancient heritage” which was hosted this year (April-September 2024) at the Louvre Museum, will present a unique lecture at the Telloglion Foundation of Arts.

On the occasion of the thirtieth Olympic and Paralympic Games held in Paris in 2024, for the third time in the city, the French School of Athens (FSA) collaborated with the Louvre Museum for an exhibition that discusses the genesis of the first Olympic Games and their iconographic sources in the late 19th century, as well as the processes of reinvention of the games and sports of ancient Greece. Its aim is to show how, in the name of sport, the combination of the disciplines of literature, history, art history and archaeology managed to create this global event.

The idea was born when examining the collection and archives of the Gilliéron family of artists, recently deposited at the FSA. Numerous other institutions and individuals have contributed with loans of works of art and objects, ancient and contemporary, as well as archival documents, books, photographs and audiovisual material.
