Through the texts of James Demetrios Athanassiou, Spyros Vlahopoulos, Leonidas Kallivrettakis, Antonis Klapsis, Manolis Koumas, Lykourgos Kourkouvelas, Mogens Pelt, Efis Pentaliou, Tasos Sakellaropoulos, Konstantinos Stratos, Zisis Fotakis, Evanthis Hadjivassiliou, Dionysis Chourhoulis and Christos Christidis, highlight the aspects of the Navy Movement, which manifested itself in May 1973.

The volume approaches the aims it served, the intentions of the officers who participated -without being linked to the aspirations of political factions-, the impact of the repression of the movement in the West and its contribution to the restoration of the democratic constitution in the country. Fifty years later, the Hellenic Parliament Foundation honours with this publication the Navy Movement as a contribution of the armed forces to the overthrow of the dictatorship, an “effort that, if it had succeeded, would have avoided much suffering”, according to Evangelos Averoff.

Moderator: Evanthis Chatzivassiliou (Professor, NKUA / General Secretary, Hellenic Parliament Foundation).

Speakers: Konstantinos An. Tasoulas (President of the Parliament), Yannis Theodoropoulos (lawyer), Michalis Stathopoulos (Professor Emeritus, NKUA / Member of the Academy of Athens), Antonis Klapsis (Associate Professor, University of Peloponnese).
