The city of Thessaloniki is officially in the festive rhythm of Christmas and New Year’s Eve, since on Thursday (07/12) the Mayor of Thessaloniki Konstantinos Zervas lit the Christmas tree that adorns Aristotelous Square.
The Mayor of Thessaloniki, who pressed the button to light the tree together with little Margarita and little Diamantis, conveyed warm wishes for happy holidays and expressed his thanks to the employees of the Municipality and to the sponsors who support the festive events.
Giannis Ploutarchos Concert
The event for the lighting of the Christmas tree was accompanied by a unique concert by the popular singer Giannis Ploutarchos. The beloved artist enthralled young and old, performing all his great hits. Giannis Ploutarchos was on stage with his children, Giorgos Kakosaios and Katerina Kakosaios, while Dimitris Chrysochoidis made a guest appearance.
The celebration for the lighting of the Christmas tree was opened by the Philharmonic Orchestra of the Municipality of Thessaloniki, creating a special atmosphere with its melodies.
The Christmas tree that was erected in Aristotelous Square is 17 meters high, transported from Paleochori in Halkidiki and decorated with 100,000 festive lamps of low energy consumption.
Meanwhile, the Ancient Agora Square will host a Christmas market during the festive period in cooperation with the Thessaloniki Trade Association.
