The Director General of the Acropolis Museum, Professor Nikolaos Chr. Stampolidis, has issued a statement in which he “responds” to British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak for his most recent attitude towards his Greek counterpart, Kyriakos Mitsotakis:
“Culture is not only antiquities and works of art. Culture is also the relationships and attitudes of people.
The British Prime Minister, creating a global uproar, failed this time to break the unity of the Parthenon marbles. And he still failed to disturb the order with the principles and values of the exceptional relations between two countries and their peoples, as well as the 2021 Resolution of the World Organisation, UNESCO, which recognises that the issue of the claim, return and reunification of the Parthenon sculptures, the symbol of harmony, aesthetics and democracy, is right, just and intergovernmental, calling on the two Governments to resolve it, in accordance with the arguments, data and global will in the 21st century. ”
