The Hellenic American Union presents the screening of the award-winning American documentary “Cured” (2020, 80′) by Bennett Singer, Patrick Sammon as part of Athens Pride 2023. The film will be screened on Thursday, June 8, 19.00 with free admission for the public at the Hellenic American Union Theatre (22 Massalias Street, Athens).

The documentary describes the mobilizations of the LGBTQ+ community to remove homosexuality from the lists of mental disorders in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM). When this was achieved in 1973, after a fierce David vs. Goliath fight, it was a major step in the struggle for equal rights.

Alexandra Vasileiou and Nancy Papathanasiou.

Alexandra Vassiliou is a Processwork practitioner and adult educator. She holds a Ph.D. in Social Psychology and a Processwork Diploma. She works in Greece and abroad as a psychotherapist, adult trainer, consultant for organizations, as well as a community work coordinator.

Nancy Papathanasiou is a Clinical Psychologist (PhD and MSc, National Academy of Sciences), and has also completed postgraduate studies in conflict mediation and organizational change (MA in Conflict Facilitation & Organizational Change, Processwork Institute, Portland, OR, USA, 2004-2007). She is a researcher at the 11528 Psychological Support Line for LGBTQ+ individuals, their families and educators and a trainer of individuals, groups and organizations on issues of sexual orientation, identity, gender identity, characteristics and gender expression.
