The Ministry of Culture and Sports announces the start of restoration work in I. Temple St. Spyridon in the city of Lefkada, with the implementing agency the Directorate for the restoration of Byzantine and post-Byzantine monuments and the supervision of the Ephorate of Antiquities of Aetoloakarnania and Lefkada, according to the signed construction contract of 08-07-2022, after the delivery of a copy of the keys of the church by Mr. Spyridon Tsarlambas.

The act ” restoration I. NAU AG. Spyridon in Lefkada ” budget 910,000€ with F.P.A is co-funded by the operational program “Ionian Islands 2014-2020” of the region of Ionian Islands and concerns the restoration of one of the most remarkable and important religious monuments of Lefkada, in order to render to the public architecturally and morphologically restored, safe and statically adequate according to the approved studies.

The tireless multi-year efforts to save the monument have now been successful, as after the visit of the Minister, Lina Mendoni to the island in the year 2020, the integration of the restoration project of the temple in cooperation with the region of Ionian Islands was launched. In the legal proceedings the assistance of I was important. The metropolis of Lefkada, the Land Office, the Agrinio Office of the Legal Council of the state, while the interest of the inhabitants of Lefkada was undiminished. The good cooperation of all the institutions contributed to the work of the Ministry of Culture and Sports, which will complete the restoration and promotion of an emblematic monument for Lefkada.
