Giannis Moschos was born in Thessaloniki and is a director, playwright, and holds a Ph.D. in Theater Studies from the Theater Department of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki
Giannis Moschos, director and playwright, became the new artistic director of the National Theater, following the open process of expression of interest and after a relevant suggestion from the Evaluation and Selection Committee; a procedure followed for the first time for the selection of the artistic director in country’s leading theater.
According to the new institutional framework, the Evaluation and Selection Committee forwarded to the political leadership of the Ministry of Culture and Sports a reasoned and personalized suggestion regarding its judgment, on the basis of which the candidacy of Giannis Moschos was approved to fill the position of the new artistic director of the National Theater for a three-year term. The political leadership accepted the Commission’s proposal.
The Evaluation and Selection Committee consisted of:
- Nikos Alivizatos, Emeritus Professor of the University of Athens (Chairman of the Committee)
- Marianna Kalbari, director, actress, Artistic Director of the Karolos Koun Art Theater
- Xenia Kalogeropoulou, actress, writer of children’s plays
- Eva Manidaki, architect-engineer, set designer
- Reni Pittaki, actress
Giannis Moschos was born in Thessaloniki and holds a Ph.D. in Theater Studies from the Theater Department of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, and is also a graduate of the Theater Department and the School of Pharmacy of the same university.
He has collaborated with the National Theater, the National Theater of Northern Greece, the Athens and Epidaurus Festival, the Municipal Theater of Piraeus, the Theater of the South ‘Amore’, the Empros Theater, the Porta Theater, the Experimental Center for the Arts in Thessaloniki, the Municipal & Regional Theatre of Kavala etc. He has taught, among others, at the Department of Theater of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, at the Higher Drama School of Dramatic Art “Empros-Theater Workshop” and at the Higher Drama School of the Municipality of Agia Varvara “Iakovos Kampanellis”, and has translated and adapted many works. In the period 2001-2004, he was the production director of the Theater of the South (Amore) while in the period 2003-2005 he was a collaborator in the Artistic Direction of the same theater.
