The Anglophone MA Program Film and Television Studies (School of Film, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki) is an intensive three – semester program managed and taught by leading film and television experts Associate Professor Betty Kaklamanidou and Professor Eleftheria Thanouli, as well as  a stellar lineup of world-renowned guest scholars (Thomas Elsaesser, Robert A. Rosenstone, Diane Negra, Deborah Jermym, Stacey Abbott, and Yannis Tzioumakis).

Our program covers a wide array of topics in film and television studies, including classical and contemporary theories of cinema, digital ontology and new media, history on cinema, politics in film and television, posthumanism in sci-fi, the history of television, television and film genres, contemporary filmmaking, gender, celebrity, ageing, and stardom.

We place a special emphasis on issues of research and methodology, cultivating advanced skills and encouraging innovative approaches to the shifting boundaries between film and television.

On completion of this MA program, our students will have acquired a firm grounding in the theoretical, political, industrial, historical and aesthetic dimensions of film and television through a range of academic perspectives.

In our fourth academic year (2022-2023), the Program and the city of Thessaloniki has already hosted a number of students from all over the world (from the United States to China and from Pakistan to Italy and Australia).

The Anglophone MA Program “Film and Television Studies” is an intensive three semester program focused on the specialization and cultivation of advanced skills and knowledge of film and television studies of theoretical/historical orientation, the advancement of academic research, as well as the promotion of new scientific knowledge.

The program is taught by scholars of international standing and is designed to ensure your mastering the political, industrial, historical and aesthetic dimensions of film and television through a range of academic perspectives.

Eligibility criteria:

The categories of candidates that can be accepted in the Postgraduate Program of the School of Film are:

  1. Holders of bachelor’s degrees from Greek Higher Education Institutions or

recognized foreign institutions of equivalent status1, as long as they submit

officially recognized degrees.

  1. A Postgraduate Diploma cannot be awarded to a student whose bachelor degree

from a foreign institution is not recognized by the Hellenic National Academic

Recognition Information Center (NARIC) according to Law 3328/2005 (Α’ 80).

  1. Members of the categories Special Scientific Personnel (SSP), Laboratory
